Hearth Pads & Heat Shields - Your Essential Protection

Most stove and fireplace manufacturers require a certified non-combustible surface underneath and around the unit before it can be safely installed — that's what hearth pads and heat shields are built to provide. They create a barrier between your stove and your floor or wall, protecting against radiant heat, stray sparks, and hot embers that can fall out during loading. This isn't just a nice-to-have: it's typically a condition of your local fire code and your homeowner's insurance.

We carry hearth pads in black steel, tempered glass, and ceramic finishes from manufacturers like Drolet, SBI, ComfortBilt, and Osburn. Steel pads are the most economical and hold up well to daily use. Tempered glass gives a more modern look while still meeting UL clearance ratings. For tighter installations, our modular heat shield systems reduce the required clearance between your stove and combustible walls, which is useful in smaller rooms where a full hearth extension isn't practical.

Sizing is the part people get wrong most often. Your pad needs to meet the manufacturer's specified clearance dimensions for your exact stove model — not just look big enough by eye. If you're unsure what size you need, our buying guides walk through clearance requirements by stove type, or you can email our team with your stove model and we'll confirm the right fit before you order.

Every hearth pad ships free on orders over $250, with no sales tax outside of Wyoming and Pennsylvania. If you're outfitting a new install, take a look at our heat management systems and fireplace grates as well — most stove installations need more than just the pad.
